      1.e4 e5 Main Lines
he main line of the Four Knights Game arises after the moves: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6. This leads to a symmetrical and highly classical position where both sides have developed knights toward the center. The most common continuation is: 4. Bb5, known as the Spanish Four Knights. After 4...Bb4, the game often transitions into a double-Ruy Lopez-style structure, filled with positional tension and rich middlegame ideas. Both sides aim for rapid development, king safety, and control of the center. Key ideas for White: Use Bb5 to apply pressure on the knight on c6. Break the symmetry with d4 at the right moment. Castle early and look for e4–e5 pawn thrusts when appropriate. Key ideas for Black: Respond actively with ...Bb4 or ...Bc5. Maintain solid central control with ...d6 and ...O-O. Challenge White's center with ...d5 in some cases. The Four Knights Main Line is ideal for players who enjoy: Classical development Clean, strategic positions Learning core chess principles through practical play
